First, taka one sheet of cardboard in my case the blue one, cut it on half. The cardboards that I’ve used  were A4 size so when I cut it on the middle it came 21cm x 15cm. Now take the other cardboard in my case white, and start measuring around. I’ve cut it on size 13cm x 19cm. The dimensions are not so important the only thing you need to know is that the white cardboard needs to be a little smaller than the other one.

For cutting the cardboards I’ve used my cutting machine, but you can use regular scissors, it’s totally up to you. Now take your white cardboard and put some marks on the middle. Then measure 3cm up, put another mark and 1cm above it with another mark. Then measure 1cm down of the middle and put marks there too. We are doing this to get better perspective how big the letters need to be.

Now, write some message. I’ve decided to write the word DAD. You can choose to write any message that you want to it’s totally up to you. I’ve chosen sorter one so I can explain the procedure of doing it better. So you are going to make the letter from between the first and the second line. In the space between the upper two lines you will draw a little straws so you are only going to fold them. In that way the letters will look like they are popping out.

There is one thing you need to know here. You want the space between the upper two lines and the lines between the middle one and the last line down to be the same.

When you finish with drawing it’s time to cut your letters. For this step I’ve used scalpel but as you know you can use anything you think will work. Using scalpel for this step looks like the easiest way for me to do this. Make sure you are not going to gut the lines on the top and on the bottom line, because you have to fold them, not to cut them. When you cut your letters you can decorate the corners somehow. I’ve decided to use corner punch for this step. You can also just round the corners or leave as they are.

When you have your card drawn, cut, and folded it’s time to glue it over the blue cardboard. I’ve used double sided tape since I didn’t have some regular glue around at that moment. Please know that you can use liquid glue as well. Make sure that you are not going to put some glue on the letters you’ve folded previously since they have to pop out of the card.

And you have a perfect pop up card that you can use as a gift for any occasion depending of the message you are going to put inside.
