With different yearly celebrations like birthdays and the various holiday celebrations, exchange of gifts is always a key thing. International women’s day and mothers’ day are among the prominent celebrations that never go unnoticed. Fathers’ day, on the other hand, is always a low key event that not so many people remember or celebrate. This could be attributed to factors like women empowerment that aims at enriching women by raising their self-esteem and giving them a voice. Recently, there has been an uprising and a turnover of events where organizations have come up to raise awareness about the boy child. This has thus brought about a change for men, and fathers’ day has started gaining prominence. With the above events taking place, many people now consider getting a gift for their dad not only for their birthday’s but also for fathers’ day. It is always essential that the present is thoughtful and the one receiving it should see that time was put into the purchase of the gift. One way o prove you invested time into a present is by making it yourself. There are different gifts that you can make such as medals, trophies, bracelets making a painting. This do it yourself guide will focus on showing you how to make a trophy cup for your dad.
“BEST DAD” medal
– printed message “BEST DAD”
– stripe of cardboard
– hot glue gun
– regular glue
– scissors
– golden spray
– some bucket
– glass for wine
– pipe cleaners
First, take your bucket and glue the glass on it using some hot glue gun. I had one blue glass previously used as a lantern for candles so I thought it could be perfect for this project. One advice in case you don’t have bucket and you don’t want to use or you don’t have glass for wine suitable for this project, you can always use plastic cup for one use and at the bottom maybe some paper holder for cookies.
When you are finished with gluing it is time for the glue to chill a little. Meanwhile, take the pipe cleaners and start making some shapes out of them. I’ve make 2 shapes looking like the S letter. These would be like handles for the medal. When you are finished with forming them in the shape that you wanted you it’s time to glue them on the medal one on the one side and one on the opposite side. For making the waned shape you can use pliers but I don’t think that will be necessary since pipe cleaners are soft so you can shape them with hands. I’ve glued the handles on the medal using some hot glue gun but you can use any type of glue that you think will work.
Now, take the stripe and start folding it in the zig zag form. You will need two same pieces and folded in the same way. Then, take the one stripe hold one ends together and stretch the other so you are going to get something like hand fan. Repeat the same procedure for the other stripe and glue them together on the middle so you are going to get interesting round shape. Then glue this on the medal whenever you think it’s looking the best. When we are here you have to know one thing. Make sure that the size of this shape is not too big, it looks good and fits nicely in your design.
Now it’s time to golden the medal. Take some old box and old newspapers, lay them around the box, put the medal in the middle and start spraying it with the spray. The newspapers around will prevent you to make a mess. Leave the medal to dry a few hours.
Now it’s time to finish the look. Cut the printed message using some scissors. I’ve decided to make the text yellow on a black background in a round shape. Cut the shape and place it in the middle of the round shape with the stripes that you’ve made previously. I’ve glued it using some hot glue gun but you can use any type of glue you think will work.
Also you make use silver spray instead of gold.
